Krishna Janmashtami!: God Krishna’s Birth, who is considered to be the 8th avatar of Lord Vishnu is celebrated as Krishna Janmashtami with great festivity across the nation in the month of Shravana on Krishna Paksha Ashtami Tithi. 2018 Krishna Janmashtami is being celebrated on Sep 2 and Sep 3 with the Ashtami Tithi beginning from 8:47 PM on Sep 2 and ends at 7:20 PM on Sep 3.
Lord Krishna was born in Dwapar Yuga to Devaki and Vasudev while they ware being held captive by Kansa – the king of Mathura.
Due to the prophecy stating that the seventh born child of Vasudev and Devaki shall kill Kansa, all the other siblings of Krishna were killed by the latter. Krishna is mostly remembered for saving the people of Mathura from the cruelty of their evil King, Kansa.
During Krishna’s birth, his father, Vasudev was guided by mystic forces to Vrindavan where Nanda and Yashoda took Krishna under their wing and raise him. Krishna, as warned by the prophecy later, killed Kansa and turned Mathura back into a happy place. Krishna has taught mankind the basic essence of life. He is teaching of Arjun in the battle of Kurukshetra serves as the pathway of truth and compassion to many and from the basis of the Bhagavad Geeta.
